I did not expect this photograph to to have so much meaning to me. During a backpacking trip along the Pacific Northwest Coast, the tide was low and brought a few deer out of the coastal forest. I caught the doe's ears through the branches of the large piece of driftwood, and prepared for her walk around...right past me. No fear, no trepidation, just mammalian respect for each other.
