The American Painted Lady, Vanessa Virginiensis, also called the American Lady, is found throughout North America. It's colors are more vivid than V. Cardui, The Painted Lady, which is found worldwide. The most notable unique feature of the American Lady compared with the Painted Lady are its two large eye spots on the ventral hind wing rather than ther four smaller eye spots seen on the Painted Lady.
