Weaver ants need a huge amount of food to sustain their large colonies. They hunt and kill many arthropods which form a vital protein source for the brood developing within each aggressively guarded nest. I was surprised to find a very beautiful Weevil which was swiftly overpowered and was being transported to the nest by this group of ants. The ants looked particularly excited to be involved in the transportation,the prospect of a Gourmet food sure is exciting. The Weevil was transported a considerable distance of around 25feet to the nest situated high up on the tree.
