The Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (MARS) is a non-profit, charitable organization located on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada that provides a safe, stress-free environment for ill, injured wildlife to recover and eventually be released back in to the wild. Each year MARS hosts a wildlife photo contest as a fundraiser. In 2011, my two kids and I won. One of the prizes was to attend the release of this rehabilitated eagle back into the wild. This eagle had been hit by a vehicle and was in rehabilitation for close to a year.
