The husband and wife team of Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen designed these sculptures in 1994. They envisioned the neoclassical building as the badminton net and the expansive lawn as the playing field. Four birdies or shuttlecocks in total adorn the lawn, three in front and one in the back of the museum. Each shuttlecock weighs 5,500 pounds and are 18 feet tall.
