Triangulating Sprites
Category: Nature
Photo and caption by Bill Fellman
This shot was taken the summer of 2010 during a successful campaign to triangulate upper atmospheric sprite activity for Fort Lewis College and the USAF Academy. Shot was 30 second exposure from Sony DSC-H2 of a fancy Watec on an iOptron GPS enabled telescope mount that was shooting video of sprites above the cloud tops/lightning. Other cameras were set up at Las Vegas, NM and Langmuir Observatory in Socorro, NM. Campaign resulted in successful Sprite 3d recreation published by McHarg, Stenbaek-Nielson et. al. I took this photo and several others similar and have full rights to it.
Location: Near Portales, NM
