No mercy for a mouse
Photo and caption by Hálfdán H. Helgason
This small woodmouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) was photographed in the higlands of Iceland on a freezing (-20°C) December night. We saw it through the kitchen-window and grabbed our cameras and flashlights. Usually they are very inconspicious but it was hungry so it kept on foraging stopping only to lift it's feet and tail out of the snow to warm them a little. At one point it climbed up on my boot to get out of snow and to get a little rest before continuing its search for something to eat.
