The unassuming statue of Mary and Jesus caught my eye while exploring Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo on a late July morning. I found spiritual bliss while lost in the lush gardens of the quaint Mission, which includes a school and a museum nestled in the shadows of an opulent Basilica. On this particular morning, the summer sun beamed perfectly upon the holy statues as I wandered outside the museum toward the Basilica, my weary traveler's soul renewed by radiant light and Northern California charm.
