Intrigued, though hesitant to turn the rusted knob, I settled for a photo of the ivy-adorned entry nestled among the humble cottages of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. I may never know what awaited me inside the rustic retreat, but in this case, true beauty was on the outside.
