This woman, from Santiago de Atitlán -one of the 12 indigenous towns on the shores of Lake Atitlán, in Guatemala-, is wearing a "tocoyal". Some people say it represents the continuity of life, as it passes from one generation to another. Others believe that the figures along the band are what the woman who wears it feels in her heart. Others say it is the way to keep good thoughts in mind.
