Spore Lantern

Category: Nature

Photo and caption by Mark Barton

A moss "sporophyte" hangs gracefully in an ancient woodland in Lancashire. Its translucent body catches the early morning light making it appear to glow with potential life. I used a hypermacro lens set to 2x lifesize for this image. The camera was pointed almost directly at the sun, but due to the highly selective depth of field and the dark background, the subject still appeared to be in a dark environment.

Location: Forest of Bowland, Lancashire, UK
