Spider Nursery

You can see the silk coming from the spinnerets of this Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans) as she spins an egg sac. She will empty eggs from her swollen abdomen into it. Her previous egg sac, seen above, has already produced the early instar spiderlings climbing on it. While I have seen many egg sacs on the lavender in my garden, this was the first time I saw one being spun. I ran into the house to grab my camera. I shot it with my Olympus E520 with a 300mm lens.
