I have never been to Burning Man, but I have spent time in the area around Gerlach, NV over the Thanksgiving holiday. I decided to go to the exact flats on the Black Rock Desert where Burning Man takes place, but when no one is there. I found myself wandering alone across a huge expanse of desert thinking about the amazing artistic festival that took place under my feet just three months earlier. The surface of the ground was frozen but just two inches below was soft mud. I looked down at my feet covered in mud, and this is what I saw. The ground, itself, an extraordinary work of art.

Location: Black Rock Desert, Nevada
