Northern Afghanistan scenery - Zare district, Balkh Province

The light was so sharp I felt it could cut through my eyes. I watched with amusement sand dunes the size of mountains, there in Northern Afghanistan, where people try to live dignified lives having little food or water. It was an early morning and dust, the most relentless, closest companion of those living in deserts, has not yet been woken up by their daily activities. I spent three years in Afghanistan documenting living conditions, daily struggles, successes and habits of an utterly amazing nation of Afghans. I took this photograph while travelling from one host village to another.

Location: Northern part of Zare district, Balkh Province, Afghanistan
