Buraco das Araras is a 126-meter deep natural sinkhole near Bonito, Brazil. In 2007, it gained the status of RPPN (Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural, a private reserve with a protected status). Its difficult access has spared it the fate of the surrounding land (deforestation to make place for cattle), and it is now an oasis for birds, including a large group of red-and-green macaws which nest in the cliff walls. It is an amazing place.
