Cherry Creek State Park is an urban wildlife sanctuary, surrounded by suburbs South of Denver, Colorado. The park has a wide variety of raptors, including harriers, kestrals, red-tail hawks, Coopers hawks, great horned owls, burrowing owls, barn owls and others. This great horned owl has not quite fledged, but it has "branched", sitting on branches near its nest until it can fly and stay aloft. The owls fly down from their high nest and then climb up onto lower branches. This one is in the grass and a few minutes later it had climbed to a low branch nearby.
