The Unknown of the Gold Rush

During the Gold Rush in the Yukon, miners had to hike over the treacherous Chilkoot trail, bringing with them one ton of supplies, to last them a year. There is a cemetery in Skagway, where those who died in the attempt to cross the mountains and were found were brought back for burial. Those found with no identificaton were laid to rest beneath the trees, far from home and loved ones who would never know their fate, with a marker simply saying "Unknown".
