Proboscis Bats

Happened upon this team of wary Proboscis Bats while on a boat tour of the Rio Frio in Costa Rica, 4 miles from the Nicaraguan border. Their spot was perfectly chosen with the bats invisible at first glance. Theses guys weren't about to take any chances, however. Concerned that our passing boat may have been a threat, the bats began to shuffle back and forth, creating a wave-like movement. Our guide theorized this was to mimic the look of a local snake with a similar pattern on it's back.
Location: Rio Frio, Costa Rica
