Snowy Egret reacting to crow attack

Category: Nature

Photo and caption by Vern Smiley

This photo was taken while I was photographing various sandpiper birds on the beach at La Jolla, CA. I noticed this Snowy Egret under attack from a crow. He ruffled his head and neck feathers and squawked at the crow. He quickly took off to avoid the attack. This bird is identified as an immature egret as evidenced by a yellow stripe on the back of his leg.
