Fisherman, Lake Nicaragua

The citizens of Granada, Nicaragua live wedged between active volcanoes and the bounty of Lake Nicaragua. Pictured is a fisherman casting a net, trying to ensnarl some of the gigantic, fresh-water perch that lurk in the lake's shallows. The bottom of his low-slung, wooden skiff was dense with thrashing fish and the smell of gasoline. This was just one of the ways that some people in Granada supplement their diet and income through hard work and exploitation of what nature provides them.
