Ice halos and arcs from Hurricane Sandy seen from Huntsville, Alabama, USA at about 4:00 pm on October 30, 2012. The Sun (partially occulted by the street lamp) is circled by the 22-degree halo. The parhelic circle runs parallel to the horizon and passes through the Sun. Where it intersects the 22-degree halo are the Parhelia – Sundogs. At the top of the halo is the Tangential Arc which is topped off by the Parry Arc. This is surrounded by the 46-degree halo which is topped off by the circumzenithal arc. Other arcs are faintly visible - all produced by the play of sunlight on ice crystals!
