As we advanced further toward the incandescence of the crater we had no idea what to expect. We crested the rim and were mesmerized, the view like nothing we had ever imagined, a spectacular lake of lava and light. The heat was there, but distant. We were in awe of the vision in front of us, we were transfixed and the world seemed to stop. The lava looked to be renewing itself, moving from right to left. It would slowly crumble as it got closer to us and then it became wave like, crashing and the occasional cracking like the sound of a shot gun. It was hypnotizing.
