Koh Phi Phi nightlife is infamous for its wild full moon parties, but every other night fire dancers perform at each beach-front bar along Ton Sai Bay. They dance with flaming hula hoops, batons, and ropes with small bowls of liquid fuel attached to both ends, or meteors. Sparks fly as this Thai dancer swings his fire meteors in the surf, his lithe body glowing for a few moments before the fire dies. It’s a new moon, so crowds are scarce and the sky is black. Trance music blares as he walks back to the fire pit where he’ll light another fire object, and begin the dance again.
