Barred Owl in Pacific NW. forest.

Photo and caption by Sandy Allen

Hiking through the woods my husband & I, turned a sharp corner on the trail we were hiking, when we appeared in plain sight of this Barred Owl. The owl looked curiously on, while we did the same, as if in a stand-off. Only we seemed shocked to see this beautiful wild bird, while the bird seemed at peace with us treading on his territory. Immediately I felt at one with nature as this incrediable creature seemed to except us entering into it's world. This moment lasted 10 min. I was able to take a few pictures while it studying us & vise-versa. Then it quitely flew away w/ it's great wing-span.

Location: Forest by Elma, WA.
