Self-portrait with Aurora

Category: Nature

Photo and caption by Laurie Crofoot

Captured September 30, 2012 I had read predictions that there would be northern lights that evening, so I decided to drive up to the Lake to watch them over the water. The Aurora Borealis glowed brightly for an hour or so early in the evening until they were drowned out by the full moon rising in the east. Since I'm always behind the camera, I rarely get a photo of myself, I decided it was time for a self-portrait, doing the thing I love the most-- shooting the night sky. Tech Details: Tamron !4mm lens on a Nikon D700,10 seconds at f/2.8, ISO 400

Location: Ontonagon County, Michigan, USA
