Elephants take a long time to learn how to use their trunk- ultimately it will have the deftness of a human hand - similarly it can be weapon, a tool, and an incredible organ enormous power. At this moment- this little one- just a week old was trying to learn how to use hers by watching and copying the actions of her mother. Finally she decided to try picking up the object of her eye with her mouth! I was privileged to be witness to her birth - and want all the world to know how very special she is - an individual- ambassador for her species- today and always: Elephas maximus
