Waiting for the Temple to Burn

The sun had set and the sky was almost dark as tens of thousands of people waited for the traditional burning of the temple at Burningman. It was an emotional time as many of us had left notes or written messages on the walls to departed loved ones, hoping for a dramatic form of closure. As we waited, a young woman in the lower right corner of the picture stepped forward into the light... seemingly representing the rest of us, who were silhouetted in darkness. It was very quiet as it began to burn, but the sound of someone sobbing nearby was felt by everyone ...and closure began.

Location: Burningman 2011 at Black Rock City, Nevada, USA
