Nukak girl II

Angie an indigenous Colombian Nukak girl, with her face painted. The Nukak are a nomadic tribe from the department of Guaviare in the Colombian Amazon, who first emerged from the jungle and began to make regular contact with the outside world in only 1988. Since then, however, contact with western diseases and the encroachment of the civil conflict have decimated their numbers from over 2,000 to less than 600 today. The stark diagonal lines of the face paint are like an armour to help them penetrate the dense jungle as they press on restlessly into the jungle.
