My guidebook said that I should stop at Solitaire, a dot on the map in the Namib desert, to taste Moose MacGregor's "world famous" apple pies. I did and found Moose, a larger-than-life character who'd worked as a mechanic before turning to baking, behind the till and hot pies straight from the oven. Yummy!
