Captivity

Our similarities to the other great apes, such as this Western Lowland Gorilla, certainly create strong emotions when we observe them in captivity. While there is much debate over whether gorillas and other higher primates should be held in captivity, it is undeniable that in the wild, gorillas are critically threatened by habitat destruction, Ebola virus and poaching. While taking this picture, I could not help but wonder what this gorilla would prefer.
