In one of the most violent cities in South America, architecture, infrastructure and public space linked with an agenda of education and community development are the starting point that triggers change for the urban poor. The library of Belén is one example of these interventions. The library built in a traditional working class community of the city helps to connect different neighbourhoods. The space design by Hiroshi Naito creates the perfect environment for the community to talk about respect, education and the local history.
Location: Medellín, Belén Neighborhood, Colombia, 2010.
