While on a hike in North Sikkim, I happened to meet this Lepcha family. It was three weeks Buddhist puja for the departed mother, it is believed that on the third week the soul will come back to see family and see how the family is doing. The family will lit oil lamps, monks will recite prayers, relatives & friends will come to pay tributes to the departed. It's not a time to show remorse but to pray, share 'chi' (traditional holy millet drink of Lepchas) and food with the community. The photo was shot in one of the rooms in the house where community menfolk were having chi, tea and food.
