Rarer pictures are few and far between. The Transit of Venus, not to be repeated again until December of 2117, is a subtle spectacle that is notable for its historical and scientific significance. During the Renaissance man strove to measure the world around them and the transit of Venus offered a direct way to quantify the distance between the Earth and the Sun. Although appearing as a small blot against the countenance of the Sun, its apparition gave us a way to literally measure the size and scale of the entire Universe.
