The Mother of Parliaments

This picture is a reminder of our first trip to England. Labeled "The Mother of Parliaments" by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the Palace of Westminster is "the engine room of British democracy" and a model of democratic government to 33 nations worldwide. Taken from the southernmost of the Golden Jubilee Bridges (pedestrian bridges flanking Hungerford Bridge), it captures the London Eye, the River Thames, and Big Ben. We waited more than an hour for good dusk lighting and allowed a 15 seconds exposure while carefully balancing a small travel tripod on the bridge's shaky handrail.

Location: Golden Jubilee Bridges, London, England
