Happy Children in Sampella
Photo and caption by Lucy Harris
Sampella is a small village built upon broken coral in the Wakatobi region of Southern Sulawesi. The children are vivacious and extremely happy individuals. Many of the people of Sampella had painted their faces with yellow turmeric paste to protect their skin from the sun and the remnants of this can be seen on one of the boys faces. The children would beg for their photographs to be taken and would often run at me when they saw me with my camera, this is one of the few shots candid shots I managed to achieve.
