This 400-year-old, famous Southern live oak tree, The Angel Oak, in Angel Oak Park, stands 65' tall, measures 28' in circumference, and shades an area of 17,000 square feet. Thought to be the oldest living organism east of the Mississippi River, the tree has become a spiritual attraction for tourists, as folklore says ghosts of former slaves would appear as angels around it. Captured here, the lens flare on a bright day gives the tree an etherial look.
