Emerging

On a trip to Costa Rica, my wife and I made a trek to Ostional Beach to see one of the largest laying sites for the Olive Ridley Turtle. Thousands of mother turtles lay their eggs at night on this beach. You can only really see this at night, but upon arriving we thought we would head down just to see it in the light. To our amazement, the tiny baby turtles were emerging from holes in the sand, starting their drive to the sea. Fighting off circling vultures and hungry dogs, we watched in awe as they made for the ocean, going on nothing but pure instinct. A sight we will never forget.
