Sumac in the Sun

Category: Nature

Photo and caption by Cynthia Adams

I am new to photography, so I took my new camera to the local forest preserve to try to learn even though it was January 7 in Illinois. I found an abundance of beauty and color there even in the cold. The sun sparkling on this native Illinois prairie plant captured my attention. I think it is a smooth sumac. Some people make wine or jams from these fruits. We usually walk past these things without really seeing them. The photographer's job is to document what is. So I am learning much more than photography now.
