Humpback Attack
Category: Nature
Photo and caption by Bill Corbett
A group of Humpback whales cooperatively feed on a school of herring. While one whale corrals the herring with a bubble net. the others listen and wait to hear a ready signal. When the call is sounded, they plunge upward together, jaws open, and clamp them shut upon surfacing. The whales feed until the school of herring is decimated.
Location: Off Baranoff Island, Alaska
