Relic Native Prairie

Prairies were perhaps some of the most beautiful flowering landscapes in the world. However, poor land use practices have either destroyed or reduced much of the native prairie ecosystems into small isolated, relic communities. This particular prairie community of Downy Indian Paintbrush, surrounded by Blue Bonnets, has since succumbed to the expansion of the I-35 corridor in Texas. This picture is now the only thing remaining of this once small isolated relic of the original native prairie.
