"Finding one lost, on the Ganges"

I traveled with my father to the ancient and holy Hindu city of Varanasi. One morning we hired a small rowboat to take us out on the Ganges River to see the morning pooja (devotion). A dense fog covered the water and muffled the noises on the shore - dogs barking, sacred music, and the splashing of devotees bathing in the holy waters. Suddenly we found ourselves lost in fog so thick I no longer wonder what it would be like to walk through a cloud. Even our guide was unable to discern the shore from the vast waters beyond. It was a disconcerting and mystical experience, one I will never forget.

Location: Ganges River, Varanasi, India
