Surfacing

Ospreys are amazing to watch when they fish. They begin by hovering over bodies of water until spotting a potential meal. Then they dive straight down at high speed, often totally submerging themselves... sometimes successful, sometimes not. This one comes up with a Hickory Shad, one of the fish that fill the local Chesapeake Bay tributaries during spawning season in Spring.
Location: Rappahannock River, near Fredericksburg, Virginia
