These Sand-Hill Cranes are a small part of a large wintering flock that use a large reservoir as a roost. They have been out all day feeding in the surrounding fields and pastures. The are silhouetted by the setting sun. As they set up to land they assume the most unlikely positions in mid-air, some look as if they have stopped flying and appear to be walking on air. The image was taken off a tripod with a Canon T2i and a Canon 100-400mm Zoom lens.
