The photo “The Last Tofolaris” has been taken in Tofolaria. The Tofolaris or Tofu is the smallest tribe in Russia, historically inhabiting the area in the Sayan Mountains, their main activities being hunting and deer-herding. According to the collectivisation plans of the Soviet government, the Tofolaris were forced to shift from nomadic lifestyle to settlements in villages. Only Alexander still resists the inevitable extinction, spitefully, teaching his granddaughter the traditional ways of Tofu lifestyle and hunting.
