Peregrine Falcon Carrying a Carrier Pigeon
Photo and caption by Akihiro Asami
A male and female peregrine falcons took off from a perch and disappeared behind cliffs. Fifteen minutes later, the male came back alone and circled their territory. Just seven seconds later, I heard the female's husky call. I snatched my 600mm F4 lens and focused on the approaching famale carrying a ringed carrier pigeon. It flew directly toward me. I got scared but kept on shooting a series of pictures until it came too close for my lens to focus. I've been taking pictures of falcons for the past eight years, but this was one of the luckiest moments.
