We had stopped to watch these lions lounging under a tree. A few minutes later a buffalo passed in the distance and in an instant the chase was on. It was incredible to see the chase, the battle, the athleticism and determination of the lionesses. This photo captures the decisive moment of the hunt when it became obvious that the lions would win the encounter. It was very impressive to see but also left me with very mixed emotions: awe, sadness, exhilharation and distress. Nature is truly red in tooth and claw....
