Boy with skin cancer

A young boy living in a suburb of Kanpur, India, is affected by skin cancer. As a boy, he has always played with his friends in the river near to his village. The water supply from Kanpur is highly contaminated with chromium due to the sewage from leather tanneries. Kanpur, "Leather City of the World", is the center of indian leather production and is home for over 400 tanneries. For cost reasons the leather is tanned with highly toxic, carcinogenic Chromium(VI) oxide. In conjunction with water it is corrosive and if swallowed it can cause kidney damage, infertility and genetic defects.
