Pink swirls of granite infuse a water-worn slab of Vishnu Schist, the 1.8 billion year old basement rock of the Grand Canyon. Carved by an ancient creek that eventually spills into the Colorado River from the north rim of the park, Phantom Canyon is laced with this filagree of contrasting stone.
