Order: Ephemeroptera Family: Isonychiidae Genus: Isonychia Like all mayflies, the brushlegged mayfly lives underwater in streams and rivers for about one year before hatching as a winged terrestrial. Its common name derives from the "brushes" on the front legs which form a mesh net to capture bits of food (detritus).
