Saddlebill stork deploying alulae when landing

Flight has fascinated man over the centuries. When I saw my picture of this common African but colourful stork I realised how simple yet effective their wing design is. The greater surface area of the wings and air brake deployed on landing is exactly what happens when a jet plane comes in to land. Nature got it right long ago!
